The Herb Hicks Jazz Quartet got a good sized dinner crowd into the Christmas spirit, during their Dec. 11 show at the Mocha Cabana.

Vocalist Sheena Lawson sat perched on a  stool and sang a variety of well roasted Christmas chestnuts while Hicks dug in and knocked off upbeat, manic , jazzy licks on keyboards.

Bassist  Ernie Block and drummer Neil Sheets kept a steady groove going.

Lawson sang pretty, lounge  ready melodies on a variety of standards like ‘Santa Baby,’ and many others including a couple of Christmas medleys, but shone on some non-Christmas related material including one really good one  that was reminiscent of ‘Stray Cat Strut’  called, I think, ‘Give Me Some Money Too.’

And ended the show with  a sultry “Have a Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
