Skilletlikkers bring in Christmas season

So they brought in the Christmas season right with their own brand of country rock, Dec. 23 at the Slice for a decent sized crowd.

Leigh Doerksen began with a solo  acoustic set of original material and was  then joined on stage by  Skilletlikkers guitarist Andy Macnamara, drummer Brad Brouwer, Tyler Bird on bass, Paul Holden on mandolin and Taylor Ackerman on steel guitar.

The band stayed  on stage  for the Skilletlikers, who started with a  cover of the D-Rangers Trois Rivieres. Then Andy Macnamara  sang  a credible verison of Steve Earle’s  ‘The Kind,’ from ‘Jerusalem.’
They all got a chance to shine.

George Arsene sang several excellent originals including ‘Back Up Against The Wall,’  and ‘Black Trans Am, ’ a touching song about a friend who died in a Crhistmas Eve car crash, several years ago.
After a laid back version of John Cougar Mellencamp’s ‘Small Town’ Tyler Bird sang a cool cover of a song called 3-18.

They wound down their first set with  another Steve Earle ‘ I Ain’t Ever Satisfied.’
