First Nations artists and writers needed

E-mail Print
If you are a First Nations Canadian between the age of 14-29, your creativity is needed. The Southern Alberta Art Gallery, the Medicine Tree Friendship Centre, and the Aboriginal Council of Lethbridge are hosting a evening of culture, creativity and celebration where you can come and work on your submission to the Canadian Aboriginal Writing & Arts Challenge, March 29 from 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
Your work will be reviewed by some of the foremost First Nations artists and could win cash prizes and even have your work exhibited in a gallery.

Use the SAAG's TD Creativity Centre to develop your own artwork or written work reflecting a moment or theme in Aboriginal History. Bring your own materials, SAAG will have some basic materials for your use but any specialties need to be provided to you.

The Southern Alberta Art Gallery will assist in the submission of any artist or writer wishing to enter the Canadian Aboriginal Writing & Arts Challenge.

Now in its seventh year, the Canadian Aboriginal Writing Challenge, presented by Enbridge Inc., has expanded to include Arts submissions. But we haven’t forgotten our writing roots, just like you shouldn’t forget yours. Enter the Arts or Writing Challenge today! Don’t forget, the deadline for the Challenge is March 31, 2011.

The Canadian Aboriginal Writing Challenge was born in 2005 out of the success of Our Story: Aboriginal Voices on Canada’s Past published by Doubleday Canada in which nine leading Aboriginal authors from across the country, including Tantoo Cardinal, Tom King and Tomson Highway, contributed a short fictional story about a defining moment in Aboriginal history. Since then, the Challenge has quickly become the largest and most recognizable essay writing competition in Canada for Aboriginal youth. It has earned large scale support from Aboriginal Arts and Literary community, including those that comprise the Patrons and Advisory committee. More than 1,000 emerging Aboriginal writers from every province and territory in Canada have submitted essays to the Challenge since 2005
