Laugh, sing and play the blues this week

E-mail Print PDF
Last week Lethbridge was the place to be thanks to Whoop-Up Days and   all of the other events surrounding it. This week, a good chunk of the Lethbidge music scene is going to Taber to play at the Taber Cornfest. Acts heading east include the Shaela Miller Threesome who play Friday night, Fast Times, Hippodrome, Karen Romanchuk and Trevor Panczak and Rough Stock who all play Saturday.
But there is a lot going on in Lethbridge as per usual.
Get ready to laugh with the First Annual Comedy Festival taking place at HB’s Lounge HB’s lounge  featuring Yuk Yuks comedians this week beginning Aug. 25 when Tony Krolo, Donavon Deschner and Dana Alexander kick things off.
Henotic has a couple big events beginning  Wednesday, Aug. 27 with Cedar Tavern Singers with Lance Semak, Sonis McAllister and the Barracuda Orchestra performing an assortment of spoken word poetry and  related weirdness.

Henotic is also hosting two shows on Saturday, the Phantom Creeps and Hardtail will provide some energetic psychobilly upstairs in the GCBC Lounge, while downstairs there is a farewell show for Jeremy Floyd Cowpar aka the Messenger band who is leaving Lethbridge.  Shaela Miller, the Void, Kory Istace and Smokestack Jacks are all on the bill.
That same night, The Slice welcomes back Twilight Hotel with special guest Scott Nolan.
The Slice has another cool show on Aug. 26 with the Record Holder band as well as Montreal accordion player Marie-Josée Houle as well as Tanyss Nixi
There are plenty of open mics this week as well.
The Ben Brown hosts the open mic at the Slice tonight (Aug. 25), while Jesse Northey and the Dandelions host an open mic  Aug. 26 at Henotic. Most Vocal Poets are also performing from 7:30-10 p.m. And because it is the fourth Friday of the month, Aug 25,  the Lethbridge Folk Club is hosting an open mic in the Wolf’s Den beginning at 8 p.m. And across the street at the Coal Banks, Ah Bee Normal is performing Friday and Saturday. They’ll be hosting a Saturday afternoon open mic beginning around 3 p.m..
