Several local concert groups get back in action this week beginning with Peter Case opening the Geomatic Attic’s season, Sept 14. Ketamines bassist Martine Menard will be among the performers at Lady love,a fundraiser for CKXU and Womanspace, Sept. 16. Photo by Richard Amery Case is a well known folk/ blues troubadour, who used to play in couple popular late ’70s early ’80s bands, the Nerves and the Plimsouls
The show begins at 8 p.m. at the Geomatic Attic. Tickets are $25 for members, $27.50 non-members and $30 at the door.

Bill Bourne, who was last here a few years ago with Tri-Continental,  opens up the Lethbridge Folk Club’s  concert season with a solo show featuring himself and his son, Pat, Sept. 17 at the Wolf’s Den.
Tickets are $20 for members, $25  for non members, though that includes the price of a membership.

Those are just a few of the big concerts of the week, there are several others worth checking out including Ann Vriend at the Slice, Sept. 14.

And Roger Marin, who used to play with Fred Eaglesmith and has since evolved into an amazing songwriter in his own right, returns to the Slice, Sept. 16 with Rachelle Risling and the Coal Creek Boys.

Marin is bringing a brand new show to Lethbridge, featuring Rachelle Risling playing piano and Marin on pedal steel and guitar.

Another highlight will be Winnipeg based jazz tinged folk rockers the F-Holes  who return to the Slice, Sept. 17.

Also on Sept. 17, people who like modern rock will want to check out an all ages gig at the South Pavilion, where Calgary bands Copper, Silo, the Stone Cartel as well as  Kelowna’s Malibu Knights will be rocking the Rock Apocalypse. Doors open at 6 p.m. General admission costs $20, $40 for floor seating and VIP tickets for $100 which includes exclusive VIP seating and tickets to the after party at the Black Tomato Lounge.

There is also a Sunday, Sept. 18 show at the Slice with Wool on Wolves, Freedom or Death and Samantha Savage Smith.

The other big event this week is CKXU’s record store day in Galt Gardens, Sept. 17.  In addition to the station thinning out their vinyl collection of material they aren’t allowed to play under their license agreement, they will be inviting several other vendors from across the province.

There will be live music all day long as well including local bands Lustre Creame and Fist City and more to be announced.

Another important fundraiser this week is a fundraiser for Womanspace, Sept. 16, featuring some of Lethbridge‘s  talented ladies. On the bill are Bente Hansen, Brenna Lowrie plus Lotion, Les Femmes Fatale, the Ketamines and Jesse Northey.

There is no cover, but as the event is a fundraiser for both CKXU, 88.3 FM, The University of Lethbridge based community radio station as well as Womanspace, there is a $10 recommended donation. Doors open at 9 p.m. with the music beginning at 9:30 p.m.

Last, but not least, on Monday, Sept. 19, Toronto area indie-rock band Wildlife will be joining Young Rival and Hollerado on Hollerado’s meet the mayors tour, which brings them to Average Joes, Sept. 19. Mayor Rajko Dodic may even join Hollerado on stage to play a song. Tickets cost $15.
