Lethbridge blessed to feature talent like Dave McCann

E-mail Print PDF

Lethbridge is blessed to have so much talent  living right here but it is easy to take it for granted.

I’m glad I didn’t miss  a rare local show from Dave McCann  and the Firehearts at the Slice, Oct. 14.

Dave McCann of Dave McCann and the Firehearts, oct. 14 at the Slice. Photo by Richard AmeryBecause they played one of the tightest sets I’ve heard them play.
McCann is the consummate showman and was enjoying himself on stage.

His band, including lead guitarist Dave Bauer and bassist  Pete Loughlin and drummer Tim Williams was definitely on fire as they played tight as ever.

The first set included a lot of crowd favourites, many of them from McCann’s most recent CD “Dixiebluebird.” including “Standing In The River,” which ended the first set, with McCann beginning it solo, with the band joining in midway.

There were also lot os of older favourites including “Circle of Stones, “Sticks and Stones” and  “Joe’s Bones.”

Their third set was outstanding as well with a lot of other excellent, upbeat, catchy country/rock originals, beginning with  an older one, “Tinseltown,” and ending the show with a hot version of  his farmer/ alien song “when Leroy Quit Drinking.
