Boogie Patrol back to bring the the party

The Boogie Patrol are all set to bring the party, Oct. 28.
“It’s nice to play Lethbridge when school’s back in session,” said Boogie Patrol singer “Rotten” Dan Shinnan, getting ready for a weekend gigs in Banff and Canmore.

Their soulful, harp powered, sweaty, energetic blues and R and B music has lead to packed houses including an opening slot with Delhi 2 Dublin  in Lethbridge and their own sold out show.

“We haven’t played there for a while, so some of the songs might be new to the audience,” he said.

The band have been hard at work supporting their new CD “ I Try and I Try And I Don’t Know What to Do… The Plan Was Set Some Time Ago and We Must Follow Through,” which took them about two and a half months to record.

“ It was recorded live off the floor. It’s very spontaneous stuff, very raw and very real,” he said adding the CD includes songs they have been playing  live for many months.

“The last one came out in 2009 but now we’re plenty different,” he said.
“ The whole band brought songs to the table for this CD. Sean (Grieve, the keyboardist) wrote a lot and or drummer Jeff Lisk is from Chicago and added a lot,” Shinnan said.

“The Cd is all over the map,” he said, adding it captures the band where they are at now.
“We are usually called a blues band, but we really aren’t. We’re a group of people with a lot of different influences , which we bring together and take it from there. We’re trying to take it further.

“We’ve got a busy festival season coming up, so we’ve been working on that,” he said.

Things are moving along well for the band. The last time the Boogie Patrol  played Lethbridge, they had a two date opening slot for Buddy Guy the day after.

“We went to Edmonton to play with him the next day, then back to Calgary with him. It was a really big opportunity for us,” he said adding they didn’t get to meet Guy.

“We didn’t get to meet him. He just shows up and plays and then leaves. He’s not sticking around for the after-party,” he observed.
