A handful of  Catholic Central grads will be coming back to Lethbridge to see old friends , family and play some Iron Maiden at the Sound Garden.Edward the Great will be playing a tribute to Iron Maiden in Lethbridge, Nov. 10. Photo Submitted.

Singer John Sinclair  along with brother Gabe Sinclair on drums, guitarists Tom Jarvie and Bruce Maclean plus bassist Greg Kristianso decided to form their Iron Maiden tribute “Edward The Great, after playing around with some covers of the ’80s metal they grew up on.

He noted his brother Gabe has played with the likes of Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger.

“I discovered I could actually hit those high notes of Bruce Dickensen,” John Sinclair enthused, who couldn’t hit those notes back when he was playing around with rock bands in 1982 when he graduated.

They play the Sound Garden, Nov. 10 at  9 p.m.

They decided to channel that into Southern Alberta’s only full on Iron Maiden tribute, complete with their own Eddie mascot.

They put a lot of work into looking the part, but more importantly, making sure every note is played perfectly.

“ We decided to be as realistic as possible. We wanted to make sure we did it properly. You should be able to close your eyes and you shouldn’t be able to tell the difference between us and Iron Maiden,” he said.

“We’re all very dedicated to Iron Maiden,” he continued.

“I like the energy of it and  to be able to do it musically to the point that it is a close to the original as possible.”
While Sound Garden is usually an over 21 club, that is being waived for the night so younger  (18 and up) metal fans can get in for the show.

They  have a wealth of material to choose from  all of Iron Maiden’s music — about 27 albums worth, so the show is always different. They played around with various band in their teens, but didn’t really start taking music seriously until after graduating, but they always loved ’80s metal, so Edward the Great was a perfect fit for them.

He said they don’t play live very much to avoid over-saturation. They are looking forward to coming back to Lethbridge and hope some of their old friends from Catholic Central will come to the show.
“My mom might even come out for it,” Sinclair said.

Lethbridge band Rawk Fist opens the show. Admission is five dollars in advance, $10 at the door.
