Sparse audience enjoys countrified rock from Brock Zeman

But they absolutely killed it with their scorching brand of deep fried Texas fried twangy country which seems like it would be more at home being played in a dirty old honky tonk with beer on the floor and bloodstains on the bathroom walls than a comfortable folk club.

Their second set included some songs from the beginning of Zeman‘s career as well as brand new songs.
Zeman’s voice sounded like a cross between Lou Reed, Tom Waits and Steve Earle, but the guitar solos were straight out of Neil Young and Crazy Horse.

entertaining picture of a small town hotel. Another highlight was “Walking in The Dark,” which Zeman said was about “what happens when you spend too much time alone in the woods and all of the strange things you do.”

The lead guitarist , Blair Hogan alternated between a hot Telecaster and a beautiful red Gretsch for some of the more rockabilly flavoured numbers like  “Once Upon a Saturday Night,” with which they wound down their second set. They were called back for an encore —  the only slow song of the entire set.
