Few people at folk club open mic to enjoy Lethbridge talent

E-mail Print PDF

The Lethbridge Folk Club only had a handful of people for their open mic at the Wolf’s Den. Dec. 9. Their open mic takes place on the second and fourth Fridays of every month.Leon Barr playing a few new songs from his new CD. Photo by Richard Amery

They had a variety of performers including Folk Club president Morris Soenen who sang a selection of old country songs.

A highlight was Lethbridge acoustic bluesman Leon Barr, who played a set of fleet fingered acoustic blues including Stagger Lee as well as a several from his new CD “Summertime Alley Rag.”

Among them was my favourite, “Alonso’s Night Out,” penned by Barr’s wife Wendy Faith.
They even let me up on stage to play a few of my own songs.
Kathy Hawley ended the night by playing several instrumentals in the dobro.

There is a bluegrass jam at the Wolf’s Den this Friday and a special Christmas themed open mic, Dec. 23.
