Coal Creek Boys and Big River combine old and new

E-mail Print PDF

The Coal Creek Boys made the most of their opening set for Big River, the Johnny Cash Tribute, April 5 at Average Joes. They played several old favourites Big River playing Johnny Cash hits. Photo by Richard Ameryduring a pretty laid back set, including “Old Number Seven” from their  “Hard At It In Old Town” CD.

Plus they played some exceptional new songs including a song about a Fernie bootlegger, and  a slower song about Saskatchewan.

Big River Cashed in after that with a solid set of Cash classics including “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Get Rhythm” and “Tennessee Flat Top Box.” As always they looked the part and definitely sounded it with plenty of rockabilly tinged stand-up bass and lots of Memphis twang.
