It’s seems like a long time since Canadian Idol for Drumheller born country / pop singer Jaydee Bixby, but he hasn’t forgotten where he came from. So he will be playing a special fundraiser or the Ronald McDonald House, April 19 at Essies.
“When a charity comes to us, we don’t turn them down,” he said.
Bixby has done several concerts for Ronald McDonald House as well as a variety of other charities designed to fight MS, cancer and , like the Ronald McDonald House, help families who need it.
“ Right after Canadian Idol, I started working with Adam Gregory. We were able to build a Ronald McDonald House for B.C.,” he said.
“We enjoy doing stuff like this that really helps out the community,” he said.
“It’s just a great cause to support,” he continued.
“ I figure it’s the best way to give back,” he said.
In addition to a variety of charity gigs, Bixby has been concentrating on writing new music with songwriting partner John Higgins.
“We’re not waiting for Nashville to send us music,” he said.
He is also preparing for his acting debut in the country musical “Country Sunshine,” at the Victoria Playhouse in Petrolia, Ontario.
“ I’ve never done anything like that before,” he said.
“They made me an offer I couldn’t refuse,” he said adding the sent him the script and basically wrote a part for him. The musical runs July 18-29.
He has fond memories of spending his twenty-first birthday in Lethbridge.
“My sister just got married to a fellow from there,” he said. he enjoyed spending his twenty-first birthday in lethbridge.
“ I spent it floating down the Old Man River,” he said.
“It was a good time,” he enthused.
“Anybody who hasn’t tubed on the river should definitely do it,” he enthused.
He noted even if you aren’t a fan of his, people should come and support the Ronald McDonald House.
“Even if you aren’t a fan come on down and support the cause,” he said.
The show will feature a couple new band members and some new songs.
“We‘re always open to taking requests If we know it, we’ll do our best to do it,” he said.
“You can come and listen to great music and hopefully will raise a lot of awareness for the Ronald McDonald House. We’ll be talking a lot about it,” he said.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door at Essies. The show begins at 9 p.m.
