It is always great to see the Boogie Brothers, aka Papa King and Daryll Düus playing together, especially since King doesn’t play often enough.the complement each other’sblues very well.
But they joined forces at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, May 5, for an energetic set of blues.
While they are each outstanding players on their own, together they just about perfectly combine Papa King’s growling, delta-style acoustic blues with Düus’ powerhouse electric blues.
Papa King sang most of the songs in his gravelly voice, sitting down, playing his acoustic guitar while growling out lyrics like Dr. John.
Düus knew where to play and was was content to sit back and add perfectly suited guitar solos, pausing only slightly to add some harmonica, blown through a telephone receiver.
A highlight was King’s trucking songs as was one that seemed to be called “Come on baby , let’s do the nasty.”
And Düus got to sing lead on a couple as well.
