Jesse and the Dandelions are back with their second record— a five song EP called “Time and Space and Everything In Between.”
It is what you’d expect from Jesse Northey, Tyler Stewart and Nick Vederes — catchy, ambient ’80s style indie pop incorporating elements of classic Joshua Tree era U2 and a lot of Vancouver indie rock bands like Said the Whale and Hey Ocean.
So there is plenty of atmospheric, clean guitar tinged with a few delay effects. Lead singer/ guitarist/ / keyboard player Jesse Northey has a very appealing voice, singing pretty melodies throughout. They begin on a high note “Infinity,” then slow things down on “ Only a Rocketship Can Save Us” which is reminiscent of more atmospheric Pink Floyd.
There is a space themed, ethereal sound to the five songs, which meld well together.
They pick up the pace a little on “Shadows,” which is a highlight because of the melody and the catchy guitar lines.
They slow things down slightly with the sparkling “Stealing Moonbeams,” which even features a theremin and some pleasant organ playing.
The end the CD with up tempo jangling of the catchy “The Fire” which is a beautiful slice of The Byrds’ style ’60s tinged pop music.
