Vancouver based death metal band Auroch began as a thrash metal band, but they evolved into a death metal band and bonded over the works of horror writer HP Lovecraft.
They play the Slice, July 16 with Psycomantium and Celestial Coffin.
They formed in 2008 and have recently released their first full length album.
“It’s eight tracks of pretty blistering death metal,” said lead guitarist Seb Montesi. They had to trim their music down from numerous track for the eight they chose for the record.
“We definitely trimmed the fat,” he continued.
“We’ve evolved into a proper death metal band, but we started as a regular thrash and classic metal band, but this felt natural,” he said.
““We’re big fans of HP Lovecraft ,” he continued adding it comes out in the band’s music.
“Some of the lyrics are right from HP Lovecraft and there is another side, the more esoteric side based on the occult,” he said.
They are releasing the first song from the CD “Forgotten Worlds,” on July 7 and the rest of the CD on Aug. 3.
“But we’ll have some with us for the tour. It’s 35 minutes and eight seconds of full speed black death metal,” he enthused. adding some of the songs have been around for two years.
They can’t wait to play Lethbridge again as their first show here last year was a hit.
“There were a lot of maniacs in the crowd and kids who really made sure there was going to be good attendance. We didn’t expect it. We just thought it would be like a rehearsal with just a few people there. So because of that show, that’s definitely why we’re coming back,” he said.
They also play Coaldale and Medicine Hat where they will be headlining the Medicine Hat Metalfest, July 17 on this quick tour out west including stops in Armstrong, Kamloops, Leader, Edmonton and ending the tour in Calgary on July 21. They are planning a more extensive tour across Canada and into the United States for later this year.
For now they are excited to open for Edmonton Deathcrust band Begrime Exemious in Edmonton and Calgary.
