Greg MacPherson shows intensity on stage

E-mail Print PDF

The Owl Acoustic  Lounge was packed to the rafters for , not only  the $99 Art show being held to raise money to complete a new gallery upstairs, but an Greg MacPherson perfroming at the Owl Acoustic Lounge. Photo by Richard Ameryenergetic show from Leigh Doerksen, Redrum Triumph and Greg MacPherson who were performing for the first part of Blueprint Records' birthday celebrations.

While I missed Leigh Doerksen and Redrum Triumph, I made a point of coming back for  Nova Scotian born, Winnipeg singer songwriter Greg MacPherson.

If you haven’t seen him live before you were probably knocked down as he is a lot different live than on his CDs. He played like he was possessed with punk energy, fire practically shooting out of his eyes and his finger tips as he jumped all over the stage trying to strangle his guitar
MacPherson and his drummer put on a wicked show, as MacPherson showed he could simultaneously howl, scream and hold a strong melody.
He alternated between balls-out rockers and slower, more tender songs but preferred the rockers, which was all right with me.
One of many highlights was a newer song called “1995” which he introduced by saying in 1995 he had pink hair and a skateboard. He looped a grungy, ’90s inspired riff and soloed over it.
He definitely hasn’t abandoned his punk roots judging by a supremely intense show.
