Cameo Blues rock the blues for 10,000 Hours and then some

E-mail Print

If you like organ and dirty blues rock you will love 10,000 Hours from Toronto’s Cameo Blues.
They are veterans of the Toronto blues scene who have been playing since 1978, so they know their stuff. The new CD definitely shows their experience ranging from uptempo rockers like “Penguin Walk,” and “Gasoline” and slower, more soulful tracks like “Plowin Our Row” and “Hold Your Love.”Click Here to Hear Cameo Blues

They sound like they come from deep in the heart of Texas rather than downtown Toronto on their  new CD which brings it from the first track “Penguin Walk.”  featuring a  dirty Texas guitar groove reminiscent of the Fabulous Thunderbirds, bouncing bass and understated organ.
The organ is beautiful throughout whether playing tasteful solos or driving the rhythm.

They also have a lot of catchy guitar hooks like on the James Gangish slide guitar powered 21st Century Rocket 88.

They also completely revamp the Led Zeppelin hit “Rock And Roll,” making it more organ and keyboard driven. They also revamp Willie Dixon’s blues standard “Howlin’” by adding a greasy bass line and dirty, dirty guitar.
“Gasoline” is a hot highlight with a sizzling guitar solo and a smoking piano solo as well.

“ Talk Radio” is another groove filled, organ powered highlight, which reminds me a lot of Rory Gallagher.
They end the CD on an upbeat, organ fuelled note “All About My Girl.” bringing it to an abrupt close. You get the feeling they’d play all night and into the morning if given the chance.
