Go For the Eyes going through a few troubles over summer

It has been an interesting couple months for Calgary indie-rock band Go For The Eyes, who have had to endure eye and elbow injuries and difficulties with promoters since they last played Lethbridge in May.Go For the Eyes return to Lethbridge this week. Photo by Richard Amery
While they were originally supposed to open for the Pack A.D. due to a mix up with their agent , instead they will be having two of their own shows at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Oct. 4-5.

It wound up working out well for them because, instead, they got to open up  for Limblifter in Calgary over the weekend.
“We were supposed to open for the Pack A.D., but there was a mix up with the promoter. They asked us if we wanted to open for Limblifter,” enthused keyboardist/vocalist Elise Roller.

“ And one of them was in Age of Electric, which is one of my favourite bands.
They were the first rock and roll band I ever saw,” she enthused.

It is just one of the trials the band has had to  deal with over the past couple months.

Lead vocalist/ guitarist Jeff Turner broke his elbow earlier this summer and couldn’t play.
“We were playing a Beastie Boys tribute  show, so we had to get someone else to play guitar while I sang,” Turner said adding it meant he had to take time off work from his job as a lifeguard.

“Then Roller injured her eye at a rehearsal and had to wear an eyepatch.
“It was not pretty.  I got an infection in my left eye. We were going to all wear eyepatches on stage because we’re called Go For the Eyes, but thought it might be cheesy. But we did have some for sale at the show and ended up selling 10 of them,” Roller laughed.
They are excited abut coming back to Lethbridge for two shows.

“We’re a full on rock band, but we like the fact it’s our own genre,” said vocalist/ guitarist Jeff Turner.
Roller noted the two shows allow them to spread their wings.

“It‘s going to be a lot of fun rock and roll,” she said.

Turner noted the first show will be a longer show as they have a couple sets, while they may only have one on Oct. 5 due to other bands being on the bill.
So that one will be the best of the first show,” Turner said.

They played the Owl Acoustic Lounge back in May, but  this time will be bringing brand new bassist Scott Perrin.

“ He’s amazing. He’s the most perfect fit I’ve seen,” Roller enthused.

They released their latest “One Through Four,” in 2011 and a self titled album in 2010. Currently they are working on the next.
“ We learned a lot from recording it,” Roller said. They are taking their time on the next one though.
“We want to write 50 amazing songs to choose from instead of just seven kind of good ones,”she said.

There is no cover for either show, Oct. 4 and Oct. 5.  The shows will beigin at approximately 9 p.m.
