Hamilton area singer-songwriter Matthew De Zoete is excited about his third CD “Colour Film.”  which wa sreleased in the Spring. He relased “Bottom of the World” in 2008 and “Across the Sea” in Matthew DeZoete plays Lethbridge, Oct. 22. Photo Submitted2006.

He will be coming to the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Oct. 22 to share the music from it an many others.
It has been a while since he has visited Lethbridge. He can recall playing the Slice way back in November, 2008 and Henotic in December 2009.

But in the meantime he has been touring extensively and recording the new CD.

“The album was inspired by the title track because I was watching old Super 8 films of my grandparents when they were moving  here from the netherlands,” De Zoete said, taking a break from working on his wife’s mixed farm.

“ I realized my grandparents weren’t always old,” he said adding that inspired a series of succinct songs which largely reflect the theme looking back on the past.

But he looked to the future for his third CD, choosing Les Barker (who has worked with Joel Barker and the Good Brothers) to produce the new CD.

“ I had a discussion with him about the kind of CD I wanted to make, and he helped me take my hands of the wheel for a while,” De Zoete continued adding Barker chose the musicians.

“ It sounds like five people got together in a studio and just played,” he continued.
“ It came together very easily and naturally,” he said.

“ But it’s quite a bit different from the first two,” he continued.

While he released the CD in Spruing, he was touring the Netherlands and Germany when it was released.

“ I tour there a lot,” he said adding he enjoys visiting his relatives in the Netherlands.

He was working on his woife’s farm during the Spring and Summer, which means  this is the first chance he has had to tour Canada  with the new CD.
“I’m helping on my wife’s farm, so that means I tour when it is cold out,” he continued.
