Singer / songwriter Mike Edel may have lived in Victoria for the past three-and-a half-years, but Alberta will always be home.
Edel and his band play the Miz City Church (13th Street & 13th Ave North), Oct. 27.
“Anytime I’m anywhere in Alberta, it’s like I’m home,” said Edel, who while he hasn’t played here for at least a year, spent September helping his dad harvest on his farm near Acme and Linden.
He will be bringing his longtime band, lead guitarist Colin McTaggart bassist Shewart Sjoerg, drummer Nigel Barry and young fiddle player Kiana Brasset on his new four week long tour of Western Canada.
“They’re my full time band, not just some guys I pick up for a tour. I’ve been playing with them for the past 10 months. They’re really good people and talented,” said Edel, taking the ferry back from Vancouver where he and the band were playing a Peak 102.7 Showcase in the Peak 102.7 Top 20 competition, vying with 20 other Vancouver area bands for $102,000 to help their career.
“It’s been a really great experience. There is a really great community of artists,” he said. They won’t know how they did in the competition until early November.
“I did some woodworking,” out of an old pile of wood,” he said.
He filmed a video for “The Country Where I Came From,” literally around the country where he came from including shots around Acme, Drumheller and Linden.
He is excited about the tour.
“It’s going to be sweet and I’m really excited about coming to Lethbridge, because I have a lot of friends there who moved there to go to university. They seem to gravitate there,” he said adding he enjoys an acoustic set like the one he will play at the Miz.
“I definitely prefer them because because you can stay tuned into in with the audience. So I prefer the sit down environment,” he said.
