Lethbridge College went country to celebrate the end of Movember, Nov. 30 and raised some money for prostate cancer.
While they didn’t have a lot of people at the beginning of the night to listen to Lethbridge songwriter Alyssa McQuaid, then began to trickle in near the end of Armond Duck Chief's set.
Alyssa McQuaid, looking a lot like Taylor Swift in long bond hair and bangs, played a brief set of solo material including several songs from her two CDs including “Who I Am,” and “Stay Beautiful.” She also played a couple choice covers and introduced some new songs from her upcoming third CD including what is sure to be a highlight— the gospel tinged song “The Water is Wide.” She ended her set with her version of Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine.”
Armond Duck Chief and his band proved to be a human jukebox of country hits.
Sporting a black cowboy hat, he sounded a lot like Vince Gill mixed with Garth Brooks and had an appealing twang to his voice.
He said he was going to play some cowboy rock and roll and ended up covering numerous Top 40 county radio hits.
He had a number of people two stepping and even a group line dancing midway through his set which included a variety of hits including the Zac Brown Band’s “Chicken Fried plus other songs made famous by the likes of George Strait and Blake Shelton. He added a couple upbeat originals as well. The Coal Creek Boys ended the night, however I missed their set.
