Tin and Toad add lots of mandolin to their country

E-mail Print PDF

Tin and Toad  and  Rancho Deluxe traded sets of deep fried country roots music at the Slice, April 26.

Rancho Deluxe, including George Arsene on vocals and guitar, Taylor Ackerman on guitar, drummer Brad Brouwer, Tyler Bird on bass and pedal steel guitarist Ryan Dyck played an Tin and Toad playing roots music. Photo by Richard Ameryenergetic set of roots/ county including several Son Volt songs.

Pete Loughlin, who usually plays with Dave McCann, joined the band on stage for a Dave McCann cover and added extra vocal harmonies on a couple others.
Loughlin returned to join Tin and Toad for their last set.

They featured a lot of mandolin and some impressive four part vocal harmonies which reminded me of the Oak Ridge Boys.

In addition to adding harmonies they each sang lead on songs, sometimes in the same song. They had excellent musicianship throughout their set as well.

They sang about farmers as well as a couple excellent songs about cocaine bales and marijuana smoking.
