Edmonton songwriter Scott Cook held court at the Slice, June 6 to release his new CD “One More Time Around.” After Matthew Robinson finished his set, Cook and his trio, banjo player/guitarist/mandolinist
Bramwell Park and stand up bassist Melissa Walker played a laid back, immediately appealing set of original folk and country.
His band added subtle vocal harmonies and highlighted Cook’s nimble fingered guitar picking.
Cook played banjo on “The Lord Giveth and The Landlord Taketh Away,” from his last Cd “Moonlit Rambles, one of the few political moments in a very relaxed and introspective show full of stories, songs and his soothing, smooth baritone voice. He noted Corin Raymond recorded the song. It was one of the highlights of the first set.
Another highlight was “Mama Always Said, from the new Cd.
Another standout from the new CD was “When We‘re Back Around” which highlighted the trio’s vocal harmonies.
