Morgan Davis rides the rails back out west

E-mail Print PDF

Nova Scotia based bluesman  Morgan Davis is riding the rails again.
He will be playing the Owl Acoustic Lounge June 29.

“I’m the on board entertainment again. I do not like to fly, so this is how I get out west, I ride the train,” said Davis adding he’ll take the train to a major centre like Edmonton, then rent a car for dMorgan Davis returns to Lethbridge this week. Photo by Richard Ameryates in the area.

He spends most of his life on the road, playing his own special brand of acoustic blues music on guitar and home made  cigar box guitar.
“ I’ve got about 100 tour dates. I left April 11 and toured around New England,” he said. He will have to fly back to Toronto from Edmonton after this trip though.

But in the meantime he is excited to be back in Lethbridge.

“ I’ll be playing traditional and  acoustic blues from Mississippi, he said.

“ I’ve been playing it for 42 years. Acoustic blues — that’s my specialty,” he said.

“I’m constantly writing,” he said adding he is never in a hurry to record  the new music.

“ I release an album every five or six years. I don’t need to record an album every year. But there will be some new tunes,” he said.

One of the  tour stops he is looking forward to the most is the North Country Fair.

“I’ve played it 24  years in a row when my sister was living there. She is one of the original organizers. But it’s been abut five years since I played it.
“They have a knack for getting performers on the a way up,” he said.

There is no cover for the show, which begins at approximately 9 p.m.
