Flowshine just wants to have fun

E-mail Print PDF

Calgary based rock and roll trio Flowshine are all about having fun. They return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge on Aug. 3.
“We love to play rock and roll music that people can dance to and have a good time,” saiFlowshine returns to Lethbridge this week. Photo by Richard ameryd Flowshine guitarist/ vocalist Jeremiah Erhardt.

Erhardt and percussionist Greg Brown have  known each other since high school and have been playing together as Flowshine with bassist Dallen Muise  for approximately three years.

“ Greg and I grew up in the same neighbourhood, we took swimming lessons together and played T-Ball together and started playing music together,” he said.
They also grew up listening to the same variety of music including a lot of classic rock which comes through in their music along with some blues and a little country.

They enjoy playing as a trio.
“It gives us room to move,” he said adding their songs have changed the more they have played them.

“The songs we played two or three years ago are not the same songs we’re playing now. They have evolved,” he said. They released their EP “Mountain Queen” in 2012 and are slowly working on new recordings.

“We’ve microphoned our basement, so we can record whenever we want and experiment,” he said
“ We like to record two or three songs at a time,” he said.
One of the newer ones he is enthused about is “Dirty Backdoor Blues.”
They play a lot in between day jobs. They have several big music festivals in Red Deer and at the Edge of the World on Vancouver Island this summer.

“Rock and roll doesn’t pay the bills, so we’re weekend warriors,” he said.

They always enjoy playing Lethbridge. They played  the Owl  in February and were at Henotic a couple years before that.

“Lethbridge shows are always a lot of fun. It’s like Las Vegas for us. All of the weirdest and craziest stories that have have  happened to us, happened in Lethbridge.

“ One time we lost a band member. He got put in the drunk tank and we didn’t  see him until noon the next day. But he wasn’t drunk. He was tired from working a night shift the night before and then playing with us. He fell asleep on a bench in front of the bar and got taken to the drunk tank. He wasn’t even allowed to make a phone call. But he got released and no-one got hurt, so it was all good,” he related.

There is no cover for the show which begins at approximately 9 p.m.
