The Owl Acoustic Lounge brought in a couple of interesting one man bands, Aug. 29.
Watching Nanaimo based one man band Johnny Good was like watching a master chef create his favourite dish on your favourite TV cooking show.

stic Lounge co-owner Steve Foord announced Johnny Good was the first touring artist the Owl brought in over two years ago.
Good began his set singing soulfully a cappella “I Want You So Bad.”
He began his next song by tapping out a rhythm on an electronic drum pad, loping it, then adding a piano line, a bass line and a background vocal melody, carefully looping them all together then began singing “Love Is all you Need,” though not the Beatles song of the same name.
He spoke to the intimate audience of growing up in the Salt Springs Islands and said “This is no bulls--t, but this is my favourite place to play in Canada.”
He began his next song by looping vocal lines and carefully crafting the individual piece of his songs.
His voice was pure soul and R and B, though his organ and keyboard sounds came straight out of the ’70s. It was impressive watching him crafting his music on the spot.
His next piece was a little more experimental featuring cascading piano chords and several high pitched vocal lines which he layered on top of each other.
The last piece was a song about supporting local mu
sic and going out to shows.
Wolf Thief aka fellow Nanaimo musician Maarten Bayliss opened up the show by playing ethereal piano and chimes and singing in a spooky, baritone voice. He played over pre-programmed drums and bass.
