Elliott Brood keeps excited crowd moving

E-mail Print PDF

Elliott Brood returned to rock another sold out Slice, Sept. 19.
The Toronto roots rock trio had most of the audience jumping in front of the stage by the time I arrived an the rest of them either tapping their toes or singing along with all of their favourites.

Elliott Brood has always had a lot of  support inElliott Brood entertains a sold out crowd. photo by Richard Amery Lethbridge since first coming here 10 years ago to the Tongue and Groove and thanked the enthusiastic audience for their supper.

Banjo player Mark Sasso, dressed in a suit and a slightly askew bow tie,  sounded like  a possessed Tom Cochrane as he thrashed away at his banjo. Casey LeForet sat hunched behind an array of  instruments,  and bass foot pedals and effects units, every now and then he’d spring up and dance, while playing a guitar. Drummer  Stephen Pitkin thrashed away at his kit, holding down the beat.

There weren’t a lot of solos to be heard, but they had an intense stage presence that had the audience shouting and  dancing.

They played a variety of songs from their most recent CD “Days into Years.” “Lindsey” was one of the highlights from that CD. They also played tracks from their re-released  CD “Tintype” which has three new tracks on it. They also played some obscurities they said they either hadn’t played before or seldom played.

“Bowling Green” was a highlight of these.

They saved their older songs for the end of their show and pulled out pair of ukuleles to play them.
They got the crowd to sing along with a few song and called it a night.
They will be back at the Slice, Oct. 4.
