La Cité Des Prairies is showing off French Canadian culture as part of Alberta Arts and Culture Day.
They have two days of everything from artwork, stories, movies, photography and even tango lessons.
“We’re all working together to show off everything we do here,” said Marie-Héléne Lyle of CineImagine, adding ACFA, le Touche-á-Tout, Médiatheque and CineImagine will all be hosting events at the French Canadian Centre ( 2104 6 Ave South).
“This is the very first time we’ve applied for the funding for it, so we’re pretty excited about it,” she enthused.
Things begin Sept. 27 with cocktails at 5 p.m. plus an art exhibit featuring eight southern Albertan artists and mini-photography museum.
“ A gentleman has some ancient photography equipment, so he will be putting them on display,” she continued.
A family film will follow at 6 p.m.
Things start up early on Saturday with a tango lesson at 10 a.m. and a children”s storyteller.
A stop motion workshop is at 1 p.m.
“I’m looking forward to that the most because I’m organizing it. It’s when you take a series of pictures and put them through a computer and make them do magical things,” she said.
There will also be an international food fair beginning at 3 p.m. featuring dishes from Canada, France, Algeria, Senegal and Belgium..
they will also have a special guest— Jean Johnson, the new president of the provincial ACFA.
“I’m looking forward to seeing who shows up,” she said.
After the food tasting, there will be an examination of Tintin, the popular Belgian reporter turned private eye comic book character.
Local band the Junkman’s Choir will wind things up at 6 p.m.
“There is a variety of events. There will be something for everyone,” she summarized.
They plan on doing this event next year as well and officially be affiliated with Arts Days.
“We’re not trying to do something separate from Arts Week, we’re just really looking forward to being in conjunction with the rest of the events,” she said.
All events are free to attend. All events are also in both French and English.
