Day one of Lethbridge Entertainment Expo is fun for pop culture fans

E-mail Print

The first day of the Lethbridge Entertainment Expo was a lot of fun, Nov. 23.hatrix Theatre’s Willem DeVos was the French taunter at the The Lethbridge Entertainment Expo. Photo by Richard Amery
There was  a little something for everyone who was even a little into pop culture and people took the theme to heart by dressing up as their favourite science fiction characters or superheros. There is an excellent selection of artisans, both local and from as far away as Montreal. There was even a paintball shooting range.

Professional curler turned science fiction authAaron Douglas and Cass Pollock at the Lethbridge Entertianment Expo. photo by Richard Ameryor Ed Lukowich gave a brief talk about his first novel the Trillionist, to an intimate audience in the Heritage Pavilion where celebrity guests including Star Trek Star Marina Sertis who played Deanna Troi on the entire TV series as well as the seven motion pictures of “Star Trek The Next Generation” and Aaron Douglas of Battlestar Galactica fame, sat talking with fans and signing autographs.

In the South Pavilion there was an array of booths featuring comics, clothing, rare DVDS, books, toys, collectibles, crazy hats and lots of local artisans.
The Deathbridge Derby Dames skated around the site talking about roller derby, threading through a multitude of pop culture buffs, some costumed and some not.

One of my favourite costumes  was a young Spiderman and his dad dressed as Dr. Octopus.
Local movie companies including Deadline Media, Rambunxious Entertainment and 5205 studios had representatives talking about their latest projects. There were also booths offering custom makeup and other services.
There was a lot of local representation at the show.

One of the favourite booths was Hatrix Theatre, promoting the April 15-20 production of Monty Python’s Spamalot. They featured the French Taunter and  the monks Juanita and Brent DeVos making chain mail for the show.

Featured guests include Marina Sirtis who played Deanna Troi on the entire TV series as well as the seven motion pictures of “Star Trek The Next Generation,” Aaron Ed Lukowich aka Sagan Jeffries talking about the life of the Trillionist. Photo by Richard AmeryDouglas who played Chief Galen Tyrol in SyFy's 2004 remake “Battlestar Galactica” as well as key rolls in Netflix's “Hemlock Grove” and AMC's “The Killing” and New York Times Bestselling author and creator of “Dragonlance” Tracy Hickman and his wife Laura.

There is a strong set of panels in Heritage Hall, Nov. 24 as well beginning at 11:30 a.m. with Lethbridge born, Edmonton based film company Deadline Media.

The rest of the panels are: 12:30 p.m— Aaron Douglas;. 1:30 p.m.: Rambunxious Entertainment; 2:30 p.m.— Purgatory Interactive and 3:30 p.m, Ed Lukowich/ Sagan Jeffries.
 The event continues Sunday, Nov. 24 10 a.m.-5 p.m.,
