People love their classic rock in Lethbridge, so it was no surprise to anyone that that the day long Lethbridge
Music Festival was a hit.
Approximately 1,800 people poured into Spitz Stadium, Sept. 6 to hear all of their favourite hits from Prism, Harlequin, Honeymoon Suite and Lou Gramm and local blues rock band Zojo Black plus Topaz.
I missed the first part of the show and only caught the end of Harlequin's ’70s an
d ’80s hit fuelled set, which wound down with a couple of my favourite catchy favourites “Superstitious Feeling” and “Innocence” and “I Did it for Love.”
I’m used to seeing them play more intimate barroom stages, so it was very cool to see them play on a big stage.
As usual Harlequin frontman George Belanger was an affable frontman cheering and playing to the crowd, clustered in front of the stage or flaked out on the ground, enjoying a gorgeous sunny day.
He still has a massive voice and the band was extremely tight.
I could only catch the beginning of Honeymoon Suite, with all of their original members who are always a highlight as they played a heavy set of what appeared to also be hit filled and delving into their back catalogue.
Frontman Johnnie Dee wore a black turtleneck and heavy black leather jacket which he quickly shed when he changed guitars.
He still has an impressive voice.
Lead guitarist Derry Grehan showed some prodigious guitar licks and the band brought back the spirit of the ’80s.
