It has been a while since Calgary based soul/ pop singer songwriter Michael Bernard Fitzgerald played Lethbridge.Michael Bernard Fitzgerald returns to Lethbridge, Monday, Oct. 27. hoto by Mark Maryanovich

The University of Lethbridge graduate brings his band to the Slice on Monday, Oct. 27 as part of his “Way Too Big, Way Too Loud” tour in support of his new CD “ Yes” which was released just over a year ago.

“ I’ve got a great band,” he said  en route to a gig in  Kelowna.

He will be  joined by two drummers including Andrew Ball who has been playing with him for eight years and Adam Cormier.

“ I just wanted to hear more percussion,” he said of having the two drummers on board.
He will also be joined by bassist Lisa  Jacobs who joins the band for her first tour with them.

“ It feels good,” he said.

In between  tours, he spent six weeks in “the other L.A.”  working on music for follow up to “Yes.”
“I like the climate down there and there’s lots of  producers and musicians doing cool stuff,” he  said adding he is working with  popular ’90s Canadian R and B and soul band  The Philosopher Kings  members Jon Levine to produce his next album.

“It will be very similar upbeat pop music.  I want to keep things fun with so much  serious stuff going on in the world,  what I can do is  do something fun,” he said.

He is going big on the Way Too Big, Way Too Loud tour as he will be joined on stage by 100 other musicians including a choir and  orchestra at some of the bigger tour stops in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Winnipeg.

“ They will all be musicians from that city,” he said.
“It’s going to be lots of fun,” he said.

“I’ve done bigger shows with 250 people in Calgary,” he said adding he loves the feeling of playing while backed by that many other musicians.
“It feels different. But it is beautiful to see what each city has. It feels so natural,” he continued.

“ I’d love to do that in Lethbridge some time. But people can expect to hear a lot of different songs. So come out and have a relaxing evening,” he said.
There is  $10 cover for the show, which begins at 9 p.m.
