It took a couple years and a few broken limbs not to mention a lot of memories of Portugal for Edmonton baroque pop trio F & M to release their brand new CD “At Sunset We Sing,” which is officially released on Nov. 4, just in time for their first trip to Lethbridge to play the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Nov. 6. Their tour takes them from Montreal to Vancouver.
“ We took a couple years to fix other things in our lives. And I broke my hand, so I couldn’t play guitar,” said guitarist/ singer Ryan Anderson.
But they eventually got the job done.
“It sounds joyfully melancholly,” added multi-instrumentalist/ vocalist Rebecca Anderson.
Guitarist /drummer Bryan Reichert completes the trio.
“ We recorded as much as we could while Ryan had a broken hand. But his particular fingerpicking is a unique style. And Bryan broke his leg. So while Bryan is a really talented guitarist, it just doesn’t sound the same without Ryan. We kept trying to get a better take,” Rebecca Anderson added.
Ryan Anderson spent a lot of time thinking about his time spent in Portugal several years back for the ambience of the album.
“ We wanted to capture the romance of Portugal,” Ryan Anderson said.
“ I’ve never been there, but it is so romantic and that’s what appealed to me,” Rebecca Anderson said.
“ We’re super hyped about it . It’s wonderful,” she enthused.
The new music was also inspired by Russia, where Rebecca Anderson has been.
“ They are similar. They have that similar feel of romance,” she said.
While the trio haven’t played Lethbridge, they have played the South Country Fair approximatey four years ago.
“ We’ve toured so much, it’s a surprise we haven’t played Lethbridge,” she said. Ryan Anderson noted the band has a lot of fan support.
“Our albums are pretty quiet. When people see the live performance, they are surprised by our energy,” he said.
“ It is a very entertaining performance,” he said.
“ We‘ll be playing a mix of new songs and older songs. So we’re pretty excited about it,” Rebecca Anderson said.
The show begins at 9 p.m. , Nov. 6 at the Owl Acoustic Lounge. There is no cover.
