Girls rock this week.
There are a couple of female powered acts happening this week as live music gives way to Christmas music.
First of all, Victoria based metal band Unleash the Archers return to the Slice, Nov. 26 with Caste of Shadows and Order of Chaos.
Unleash the Archers are currently touring the United States in support of their 2012 EP “Defy The Sky.” Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door which begins at 9 p.m.
On the more pop side of the musical spectrum, Juno nominated Vancouver based indie-rock band Mother Mother return to Lethbridge to play Average Joes with USS, Dec. 2.
They have a couple catchy earworms of singles “Let’s Fall in Love” and “Infinitesimal” off their 2012 CD “Sticks,” but also have a brand new hit on their hands with “Get Out The Way,” which was released to radio in July. They have just released a new album out called “Very Good Bad Thing.” The show begins at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $35 in advance.
There are a lot of excellent local shows including local blues rock band Zojo Black’s CD release party at the Slice, Nov. 28 with special guests the Silvertuns. Another excellent local rock show features the New Weather Machine with Mormon Girls and Swift Current progressive rock band the Moon Runners at the Slice, Nov. 29. And Who’s Yer Daddy return to the Front Row pub, Nov. 29 to rock the joint.
Local experimental rock band Toques and Beards play the Owl Acoustic Lounge the same night with the Yeah Dads and the Broads.
There are also a couple of excellent country gigs including country rock band Jo Hikk returning to Casino Lethbridge Friday and Saturday.
The Old Man River Band are playing a Movember show at the Lethbridge College Cave on Nov. 27.
Tis the season for fundraisers beginning this week. There is a Save Chinatown fundraiser at Scores, Nov. 29 featuring the Desert Wind Belly Dancers. Admission is $10. It runs from 6-9 p.m.
But the big fundraiser of the week is at the Yates Theatre, Dec. 2 when the Huron Carole returns to Lethbridge for the second year in a row to raise money for Lethbridge Food banks.
It is a similar line up to last year as host Tom Jackson will be bringing country singer Beverley Mahood on the tour along with jazz/ R and B singer Shannon Gaye, up and coming country starts One More Girl and newcomer, Winnipeg songwriter Don Amero.
The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $53.50.
The Lethbridge Symphony also has a couple of concerts this week as they feature the 2014 Kids Choir presentation, Nov. 26 and Nov. 27. Tickets cost five dollars each. The theme this year is appropriately, “Holidays and Traditions.”
As it is the end of the month, The Owl Acoustic Lounge has their monthly comedy open mic, Nov. 26 beginning at 9 p.m.
And the Lethbridge Folk Club has cancelled their bluegrass jams on the first and third Fridays of every month due to lack of interest. Open mics still take place at the Wolf’s Den ( 1502 -2nd Avenue South) on the second and fourth Fridays.
However they are holding smaller concerts in the Wolf’s Den. The first one is Charlie Ewing, who will be performing, Dec. 5. Admission is $25 for guests and $20 for members.
There is an open mic at the Smokehouse on Saturday, Nov. 29 with mark Hall, Raz Bruce and Rick Maddeaux. It begins at 9 p.m.
Though it is out of town, Nova Scotia folk/ country singer Old Man Luedecke will be playing Fort Macleod, Dec. 2 at the Fort Macleod Allied Arts building at #232 24th Street. The show begins at 7 p.m.
