Sean Burns duo play rootsy country

E-mail Print PDF

Winnipeg singer songwriter Sean Burns and guitarist Kris Ulrich brought uptempo melodic country tinged folk music to the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Nov. 21.

He looked and even sounded a little like Edmonton musician Sean Brewer. But his sound was more Paul Brandt and Jason Isbell.Kris Ulrich and Sean Burns playing rootsy country music. Photo by Richard Amery

He sang hook filled original story songs  including all kinds of lines about the prairies and added a few obscure covers like Malvina Reynolds’ folk classic “Little Boxes”  and the Refreshments’ album track “Suckerpunch” from their  1996 record “ Fizzy, Fuzzy, Big and Buzzy.”

Ulrich played some very tasteful guitar leads throughout and added subtle vocal harmonies. He also played some lap steel guitar for a couple of songs.
