Fatherhood has been taking centre stage for Southern Alberta songwriters John Wort Hannam, Leeroy Stagger and Dave McCann. But they are excited to get back on the road together for their annual December tour of Alberta which stops at the Geomatic Attic, Dec. 14.
“ My wife is full time at the university, so I’ve mostly been busy being a dad,” said John Wort Hannam from his Fort Macleod home.
“ Dave had one when we started and now he’s on number 3 and Leeroy has his little boy and I have one,” he summarized.
They all look forward to the Highway 3 Roots Revue tour, which will be half in December and half in February because they will be building part two of the tour around a good gig they got in February in Turner Valley for the Beneath the Arch concert series.
“ It’s become a tradition. It’s great. We have a lot of fun,” he said adding the show is different this year.
“ We all have new albums out or we’re working on new albums, so there will be a lot of new music this time,” he said.
They start the December portion of Highway 3 tour in Calgary on Dec. 12 and in Carstairs the next night before returning home to Southern Alberta for Lethbridge on Dec. 14.
“ It’s changed, but I’m embracing the change,” he said.
“ We’re also playing a lot more on each other’s songs. So it is a lot less songwriter in the round and more like a trio.. Leeroy will play mandolin on songs and I’ll bring out the banjo for a couple of songs,” he said.
“ So I’m excited about it. We’re all excited,” he said.
While they usually play the Slice, they are excited to play the Geomatic Attic again.
“It will be the second time we’ve played there. It’s a very different venue, which isn’t to say that one is better than the other, but it is nice to play for a different audience,” he said.
“ There is some overlap of audiences. You’ll see some familiar faces at the different venues but there are some people who just go to one venue,” he observed.
“ So we’re excited to play new songs for new audiences. We’ll be testing a lot of new songs on everyone,” he said.
Ticket prices for Hwy 3 are $25 Advance, $27.50 Online and $30 at the door. The show begins at 8 p.m sharp.
