Inferno rocked with the sound of metal, Feb. 12.
While I missed local bands the Avulsion and Sacred Savage who apparently drew 70 people out on a Thursday night, I got there just in time to hear Saskatoon’s the Basement Paintings. Unfortunately the audience had dwindled to approximately 25.
Basement Paintings sounded like Pink Floyd might have if they explored more progressive metal music.
So their all instrumental set featured waves of psychedelic sounds, layers of guitar effects and a trippy video display showing behind them featuring images of waves and space.
There were heavy riffs and subtle guitar solos which all took the audience on a long strange trip.
They are staunchly proud to be an all instrumental band and with good reason.
Vocals would have only ruined their ambiance.
They only played about five songs in their half hour set.
