CKXU Station manager Aaron Trozzo literally put his ass on the line to help University of Lethbridge based community radio station not only achieve, but exceed this year’s FUNDrive goal of $20,000 by earning  $21,545 in pledges from 245 donors not including donations and admission from several special events.

Literally because among the innovative incentives given by on-air personalities throughout the week including home made bookmarks, art, toques, cooking, videotapes, a polaroid camera, curbside recycling for a year and fresh eggs, Trozzo and the other station executives promised to wear Prince style butt-less chaps during  CKXU’s wind uNathan Kunkel plays some of Prince’s 1999 album. “This is amazing,” Trozzo said after his set, still wearing his Prince pants.
“ We’re pleased to be part of this community,” he said  adding he appreciates the support of the community members for not only the pledges themselves, but for  donations in kind and for attending the events and the hard work of their volunteers.

CKXU had a big party at SAAG for Friends card members ( a card which  allows discounts at 40 local businesses, the Owl Acoustic Lounge’s afternoon family jam on March 21 ,  a free party at the University of Lethbridge at the Zoo in the University of Lethbridge Student’s Union Building featuring Calgary based Latin Fusion band the Uno Band plus local rapper Pzeudo and the Acoustic Rhymers.

They were also part of CMARD’s ( Coalition of Municipalities Against Racism & Discrimination) Pangaea Diversity Cafe: International Day to eliminate Racism and Discrimination at City Hall on March 21.
CKXU also featured their annual Cupcake Carnival on March 22 at CASA. They held a trivia night at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, march 26 and wound up FUNDrive with numerous local musicians covering several early Prince albums.

“All of this support has been really great,” he said.
“ It has been unbelievable and uncanny,” he continued.
The money will be put towards a matching grant between the city and province, which will help them build a bigger tower and increase the station’s range, which often doesn’t even cover Lethbridge, though you can hear them at 88.3 F.M outside the city on a clear day.
