Kenny Shields and Streetheart bring the hits and more

E-mail Print PDF

Kenny Shields and Streetheart were in fine form at a pre-Canada Day bash at Average, Joes, June 30. Kenny shileds welcomes his fans, June 30. Phtoo by Richard Amery

Shields shyly smiled and waved at the audience and shook hands with the enthusiastic folks in the front row to start off a show that looked like it would be the hits, all the hits and nothing but the hits beginning with “Here Comes the Night,” “Hollywood” and “Tin Soldier”  by which time the dance floor was full with drunken pre-Canada Day revellers singing and shouting along.

But they were having fun on stage, digging up a few of their lesser known songs. They played a groovy jam on their funk fueled 1980 song “Teenage Rage,” and played a long version of “Look in Your Eyes”, then lead the audience through a chorus of drunk karaoke on one of their more popular power ballads “What Kind of Night Is This.”

Then they picked up the pace for one of their big arena rockers  “One More Time.” They had crowd shouting along with their hit Rolling Stones cover “Under My Thumb.”

As they should be, they played an extremely tight set full of tasteful guitar solos, arena rock anthem, a strong ’80s vibe and lots  of keys which sounded like harpsichord. And of course those huge sing along choruses, which the audience was eager to sing along with.
