“We’re enjoying sunshine and sushi in Vancouver,” said Burton, who will be joined by guitarist Alfred Chow and drummer Scott Nickol.

“We have two shows in Vancouver then we’re heading home,” said Burton.
“We’ve been playing as a four piece but our bass player Vic has to go back to Toronto because she just opened a bar,” said Burton, who is excited to play with a band on this tour.

“ I’ve been mostly playing solo or as a duo. But it’s exciting to play with a band because it shows what we’ve been doing in Toronto, she said.

“It’s more mouths to feed, but it’s so much more fun,” she enthused.
Burton is touring in support of her most recent CD “Make Your Own Bed” and just released a video for “Ocean Town.”

“We shot that at a house in Toronto which is known for having lots of parties. We shot that after North By North East. They hadn’t cleaned it up. They had 1,000 people through there the night before for a 16 hour long party. So we had a great time shooting it. We were just taking it easy,” she continued, noting it features her band.
“We need more of them,” she continued.

She is working on new songs.
“Financially, I’m completely dry and I’m still releasing stuff off of ‘Make Your Own bed.’ I just did a piano album,  but I’m excited to start playing more guitar again,” she said adding new songs including a new one called ‘Smile For the Camera’ which she plans to release as a single take her sound into a more rock and pop direction. She also wants to show off her multi-talented band.

“ Alfred also plays keyboards, so I’d like to get more into more switching instruments because the whole band plays a lot of different instruments,” she said.

“ I want to see how big of a sound four people can make,” she said.
“I’ve seen the potential of what  we can do. We’re just trying to figure  it out. Touring with them has really opened up my eyes to the possibilities,” she said.

She noted audiences are responding well to ‘Make Your Own Bed.’
“More people are streaming it then they are buying it, but people  definitely coming to the shows,” she said.
“Success is hard to gauge. I don’t think sales are really a good indication of success in the music business today,” she observed.
She is excited to return to Lethbridge.

“We’re playing every day on the way home. I hope people will come out because we’ll be putting on a great show. We’ll definitely be playing  songs from ‘Make Your Own Bed’ and some new songs. We’ll definitely be watching the audience. If they want to rock, we will,” she said.
Sarah Burton and her band play at 9 p.m. at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Aug. 17.
