Winnipeg indie rock/ post punk band Hearing Trees’ first big tour got off to a bit of a rocky start in Red Deer after some miscreant broke into their trailer and stole several of their instruments and belongings including a rare drum kit.

“Everything so far has been super fun and super amazing, but we woke up this morning with broken hearts,” said Hearing Trees frontman Graham Hnatiuk.
The drums have since been returned.

But they are going to make the best of things for the rest of their tour which includes a Sept. 25 stop at the Owl Acoustic Lounge with Lethbridge pop punk band Open 24-7 and a new Lethbridge heavy/ psychedelic rock band Rainbow Patrol.

The band, which also includes Joel Heidinger, David Huffman and Carey J Buss, are touring in support of their second EP “ Dear Sahara.”

The new EP has received a lot of positive feedback and drawn comparisons to The Tragically Hip, though it’s unintentional.

“A lot of people have said that to us, but we all have different influences and when we get together, this is what comes out,” he said.

“ If you listen to thew whole album, it is a little more rockier,” he said.
“ But there is also a lot more moodier material, so I guess we sound like the Tragically Hip and bands like Interpol,” he said.

The band has never played Lethbridge before, but they have heard a lot of good things.

“A lot of Winnipeg bands play there and say good things about the venue,” he said.

“ And we’ve got some great local bands playing with us, which you don’t often get in smaller cities,” he said.
There is no cover for the show, which begins at 9 p.m.
