Any one of the Kingston rockers the Glorious Sons’ previous singles (White Noise, Lightning, Heavy, Mama, Lightning) could have been a contender for the number one spot on the charts, but their latest single “ the Contender” landed the knock out punch and hit the number one spot on the Active Rock Chart last week.
“Anytime we have a song on the radio, we‘d like it to be number one,” said Glorious Sons frontman Brett Emmons,” beginning their 31 date “Contender” tour in Winnipeg en route to Average Joes, Oct. 18 with Northcote and the Poor Young Things.
“Contender is our first number one. We’ve had a lot in the top five but never number one,” he said.
They released the video for Contender on Oct. 14 — a gang rumble featuring the Glorious Sons and some of their musically inclined friends.
“It just represents different rocking groups from different eras of music. We wanted a video that was fun for us to do and fun for our fans to see,” he said, thanking fans and radio for supporting the band.
“It was kind of a thrill for us. It’s been really exciting. We’ve been working really hard,” he said.
“It was cold, and rainy, but we had 500 people there sticking it out.
I remember we were wandering around the circus or whatever it was and there was nobody there, but then all of the sudden there was a lot of people for our show,” he said, adding the band is looking forward to playing Average Joes for the third time.
“ We’ve always had really amazing shows there. We’ve always had great support there and we all think that’s really special,” he said.
They are looking forward to the show.
“This is our first real headlining show. We have two great supporting acts we’re all real fans of. We think they’re some of the best in Canada,” he said noting a couple of the shows have already sold out.
“We’re just going to play and kick some ass,” he said.
the show begins at 8 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 18. Tickets are $20 at the door.
