Local musicians honour David Bowie’s music

E-mail Print PDF

Everybody loves David Bowie. Rather a good chunk of the Lethbridge music community who packed the Slice, Feb. 20 for a David Bowie  tribute featuring the talents of a who’s who of  Lethbridge musicians.

The super-band including Taylor Ackerman, Tyler Bird, Jason Oakes, Clayton Smith, Paul Holden and  frontman Jon Martin worked their way through a long set of pretty much all of David Bowie’s best known  hits  including“ Space Oddity,”  “ Heroes” and “Fashion” plus more obscure David Bowie songs. I didn’t hear “Suffragette City” though.

They welcomed up a variety of special guests to play individual songs including Shaela Miller, Jason Schultchen,  Bruce Roome and Tod Robinson who added vocals and played guitar, bass and keyboards.

I was impressed by how well the musicians, who each play in at least a half dozen bands of their own, perfectly melded together on their tight, flawless arrangements of Bowie songs.
And the audience lapped up every note, dancing in front of the stage.
