Foul English bring “dadcore” to Lethbridge

E-mail Print PDF

It is great to have punk shows happening again. Promoter Alex Currie had taken a break from doing shows  toThe Foul English’s Nick False. Photo by Richard Amery focus on family and school but he brought some superb Southern Alberta punk back to the Moose Hall, April 22 with local punk/ rock band the Space Wolves plus Calgary punks the Reckless Heroes and The Foul English, April 22.

I caught the first half of the Space Wolves who blended punk intensity with metal musical chops. Frontman Donovon Howell’s voice gave the band a Billy Talent kind of vibe.

I caught the last couple songs of another solid set of punk and metal music from punk/ metal songs from Calgary’s The Reckless Heroes. Bassist Danny Daigle was standing in a speaker banging his head as guitarist Chris Saunders followed suit on the other speaker.

“Dadcore” band Foul English wound up the show by basically playing their new self-titled CD  from the first song to the last in order.

They played ridiculously catchy old school punk and gritty rock and roll, with plenty of raw riffs and bluesy solos. The Space Wolves opening for the Foul English. Photo by Richard Amery

Frontman Nick False dedicated  the first song “Switchblade Tattoo” to long time friend and guitarist  Steve Rubletz, who he noted he grew up with in the Forest Lawn neighbourhood of Calgary. They had a number of songs about growing up there.

“Number One” Bus was a highlight as was “Save Our City,” one of several songs to feature big, loud gang vocals.
“Used To be a Ripper,” was another highlight about enjoying skateboarding and circle pits when they were young.

“Small Victories,” also stood out. Nick False noted the band had seven kids between all of the band members which lead to their signature song “Dadcore.”
