November begins with an eclectic selection of bigger shows.
Right out of the gate, Wednesday, Nov. 2, Barney Bentall, who had several hits in the ’80s including “Something to Live for,” and “Life Could Be Worse” shows his rootsy side with a hot lineup of talented musicians including Lethbridge‘s Leeroy Stagger, who urged him to bring the Cariboo Express show to Lethbridge for the first time. Stagger and Bentall will be joined by Bentall’s son Dustin, Ridley Bent, Kendall Carson and Matt Masters. The Geomatic Attic show begins at Southminster United Church at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $40 in advance from Blueprint, Casa and the Geomatic Attic , $42.50 online and $45 at the door.
The Geomatic Attic also presets an unplugged, mellow acoustic show with the Great Lake Swimmers, Nov. 7 at the Southminster United Church. Tickets cost $35 advance, $37.50 online $40 door.
The other big event is Bif Naked, who had a huge hit with “ I Love Myself Today,” will be coming to Coyote Joes, Nov. 6 with her “I Bificus Songs and Stories tour in support of her new book “ I Bificus.” Jordan Alexander will also be performing. The show runs from 8:30 p.m.-11 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance, $25 on the day of the show.
There is also a day long concert for a good cause, Nov. 5 at Legends, where several southern Alberta bands will be playing to help raise money for Karla, a young woman who was beaten nearly to death last month while walking to work. Performers include local rock bands Dory and the Weathermen, Uncovered, Suit Jacket Society, Bryan Horvat, local country band Mark Hall Band and blues rock band Driving While Blind. Admission is $10 at the door. There will also be a silent auction. The music begins at 4 p.m,.
You can see the more adult side of some of your favourite New West Theatre performers (Erica Hunt, David Barrus, Kathy Zaborsky and Scott Carpenter) as the local theatre troupe are putting on “Nightlife: A New West Theatre Cabaret” in the Sterndale Bennett Theatre, Nov. 4 and 5 at 7:30 p.m. plus a just added third show at 10 p.m., Nov. 5. Expect to hear adult subject matter, lots of comedy songs and much more so get ready to laugh a lot. There will also be a cash bar. Tickets are $23 regular, $19 students and seniors.
If you like blues music, Paul Kype and Texas Flood return to Casino Lethbridge, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4 and 5.
There are also open mics at Honker’s Pub at 8 p.m., Nov. 4 and their usual afternoon open mic, Nov. 5 from 3-10 p.m.
There is a pretty sweet classical music concert this week as well. A Classical Double Bill at Casa, Nov. 4 features Jesse Plessis and Lisa Mulgrew. The concert begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 general, $10 students.
And if you like fingerpicked acoustic blues, Leon Barr plays the Mocha Cabana, Nov. 4 from 6-9 p.m.
The Owl Acoustic Lounge features a pair of excellent roots and country shows this week.
Carter Felker and Skinny Dyck return to play super roots and country music, Nov. 4.
And Enslow (Medicine Hat based roots duo Jay Bowcott and Brady Enslen) with special guest Matthew Gerard Robinson play, Nov. 5. There is no cover for either show, which begin around 9 p.m.
