Local soul /disco/ R and B/ pop band Hippodrome’s annual  visit to the Slice is always an event, so, as expected, their Jan. 6 show it sold out to a room full of sweaty dancers, enjoying a cornucopia of classic pop and R and B music, plenty of horns and harmonies and lotCutlines. Erica Hunt, Shawna Romolliwa and Juran Greene took turns singing lead vocals and sang harmonies while dancing and grooving with the crowd.

It was also a birthday party for Pardip Athwal, who got up on stage to dance with the band.

They played an array of popular hits like “Valerie,” Mustang Sally,” and wound things down with a huge version of “Proud Mary,” which started off slowly then picked up  to a raging torrent of intensity, which included a James Oldenburg guitar solo including a few bars of the Flintstones Theme and some of the Star Wars theme as  the band picked up the tempo.
