Metalheads crowded into Average Joes for two top notch tribute acts, Nov. 24.
I caught the end of an intense and ferocious set from Metallica tribute Damage Inc., just as they were laying into a hot cover of “Master of Puppets.
” They looked the part and definitely sounded like it mostly due to frontman Mark Anthony. Their lead guitarist Matt Merlin played plenty of hot metal licks and screaming Kirk Hammett leads. They ended with their band’s namesake “Damage Inc.” from Master of Puppets.
Saskatoon based Guns N’ Rose Tribute the Nightrain also looked and sounded the part, going so far to wear costumes making them look like Guns N’ Roses.
They started off with a couple of Appetite For Destruction songs , beginning with “It‘s So Easy, “ Welcome to The Jungle” and “Mr. Brownstone,” plus the band’s namesake “Nightrain” which featured a train whistle, which appeared throughout the set.
They moved on to “Civil War” and an excellent cover of Nazareth’s “Hair of The Dog.”
They slowed things down a little with “Used to Love Her,” they picked up the pace again with “You Could Be Mine.”
The ended their set with the grandiose power ballad “November Rain.”
