Papa King and the Boogiemen give it their all

E-mail Print PDF

Papa King and the Boogiemen was one show that did suffer, Nov. 23 due to so much competition including Old Man Luedecke, Hawksley Workman and the Condom Couture at Arches.
Unfortunately King, bassist Doug Freeman and lead guitarist Steve Keenan played an excellent show for a dismal turnout.Doiug Freeman, Papa King and Steve Keenan at the Slice, Nov. 23. Photo By Richard Amery
They treated it as a rehearsal and just killed it as usual.

Keenan was singing lead vocals and playing some hot guitar. They were lost in a tight groove together as King bashed out rhythm and pounded out   percussion with his feet. Freeman grooved and Keenan played a lot of soulful guitar solos.

Papa King  growled out lead vocals in his gravelly voice for most of the set, while thumping at an old acoustic guitar while bobbing his head in time to the rhythm

They have a new CD “Bootleg ” out which is a taste of a full length live album coming out next year. So they played several tracks from that before taking a break.
