Once again, there is a little bit of everything for people looking to escape cabin fever after a week of close to record breaking low temperatures.
Good Times is the place to be this week for laughter all week long.
Tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 16, ImPromptu hosts drop in improv at Good Times beginning at 7 p.m. So if you ned a laugh or just to escape for a couple hours, don't miss the show. There is no cover charge, but donations will be accepted. Impromptu will be back at Good Times on Thursday for the latest instalment of their latest improvised soap opera Gommorrah— backstage, where the performers explore the backstage shenanigans of “ Lethbridge‘s brand new performing arts space Grand Theatre Gommorrah.” Tickets are $14.95. The show begins at 7 p.m.. They will hold court at Good Tomes on the third Thursday of every month.
Les Fox and Alli Price return the Good Times stage to host Pro-Amateur night at Good Times, on Wednesday, Jan. 17
Benj Rothman brings the funny to Good Times, Jan, 19 and 20.
If you have a song in your heart you’d like to share, the Owl Acoustic lounge’s weekly open mic is also tonight, Jan. 16.
A really talented new local Celtic rock band Clover Overboard return to the Slice to host the open mic on Wednesday, Jan, 17.
Luke James Bruce hosts Honkers Pub’s open mic on Friday, Jan. 19.
Undefined play a show at Honkers Pub on Saturday at 7 p.m.
There is jazz music this week. Sheena Lawson and the LoveCats return to the Watertower Grill in Wednesday, Jan 17 to play jazz music, from 6-8 p.m.
Local jazz band Midnight Channel return to Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden on Thursday, Jan. 18.
There are several options for local country music this week.
Kevin Peters and Burnt Edges return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Friday, Jan. 19. Around the corner, Fourth Place Ribbons aka Chris Drew and Friends turn the Slice a little bit country, Jan 19.
Local country band Lady Grime and Prairie Scum to country up the Casino Lethbridge stage.
If you just want to rock, The Chevelles have your night planned, Friday, Jan 19. Tickets are $15 in advance.
The Chevelles’ hit parade begins at 9 p.m.
The big rock show of the week is at the Slice on Saturday, Jan 20, who welcomes back Calgary power trio the Static Shift and the Decadent Phase to bring those ’60s and ’70s vibes. Tickets are $17.85 in advance through ShowPass.
They will start melting your face with the power of rock at 8 p.m.
For a more modern rock feel, Red Deer band Ten02 and the Calgary’s Golden Lava Club return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge stage on Saturday, Jan. 20. Admission is by donation.
There are a couple of cultural celebrations this weekend.
Celtic Routes celebrate everything Scottish at the Southern Alberta Ethnic Association, Jan. 20.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. There will be a traditional Scottish dinner served at 6:30 p.m. with live entertainment from the Lethbridge Highland Dancing Association and music byCeltic Routes plus bagpipers and a toast to the haggis.
Tickets are $25 for members, $30 for non-members and $15 for teens 2-11.
Also on Jan. 2, you can ring in the Ukrainian new year with the Troyanda Ukrainian Dance Club Malanka clebrations at the Agri-Food Hub.
Cocktails are at 4:30 p.m., the show begins at 5:15. There will be live entertainment from Ukrainian band Absolute!

The Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra opens the the new year with Intima II — Czech Mates, Jan. 20 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. in the casa community room.
Pianist Brad Parker and the Musaeus String Quartet will be performing a selection of Czech Folk music and Bohemian folk dances including Antonin Dvorak’s Piano Quintet No. 2 Opus 82 and Bedrich Smetana’s String Quartet No 1 in E Minor. Tickets are $10 for children aged 10 and under and $25 adults.
