I didn’t want to miss the debut Lethbridge performance of Winnipeg dance -pop collective Royal Canoe who were playing the Slice, Oct. 15 with the Liptonians, who returned after a couple years’ hiatus.
I was glad I caught the last couple songs of beautifully upbeat piano powered indie pop music which was reminiscent of Ben Folds and not only had the audience singing along to a couple songs, but also dancing.
Up next was most of the Liptonians who added a variety of vintage keyboards including a couple of Moog synthesizers, a Farfisa organ and an extra set of electronic drums to create the dance -pop juggernaut that is known as Royal Canoe, making their Lethbridge debut.
While they tried to get the audience up on the floor, most of them were content to sit back and enjoy the kind of trippy, laid back dance pop groove the band laid down.
They had picked up the tempo a little bit by the time I left.
