A Magical Dr. Sketchy’s for SAAG’s happy hour this week.

Dr. Sketchy’s Anti Art School is combining magic and art for Happy Hour at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery this Friday.

“We‘re partners for a few different groups including the Allied Arts Council, the Southern Alberta Art Gallery and the Owl,” said Dr. Sketchys’ organizer Loralee Sand-Edwards adding they are pleased to be part of the first SAAG Happy Hour  for the Fall.

SAAG happy hours include live entertainment every Friday at 5 p.m. for both members and visitors. Dr. Sketchy’s is an innovative way for artists of all levels of experience to  get some experience  and have some fun drawing live  models in an informal  and laid back atmosphere, while having a few drinks, listening to laid back music and bonding with other artists.

The theme for this Dr. Sketchy’s features  “sleight of hand” from local artist Frater Tham, aka  the Magical Mysterioso and his assistant Roberto.

“They will be our first male models, so we’re excited about that,” Sand-Edwards enthused adding they are hoping to get more male models for future Dr. Sketchys.
“He’ll be doing sleight of hand and then will be posing. He even rented a tuxedo for this,” she enthused adding admission is free for SAAG members and $5 for everyone  else. The price is cheaper this time because the SAAG will be paying the models this time.

While some drawing supplies will be supplied, artists are encouraged to bring their own. There will be prizes as well including SAAG schwag.
“It will definitely be entertaining. SAAG as always encouraged the local art community and the artists within the community. Southern Albertans are very lucky to have them in the community,” she continued.

“We’re evolving,” she said adding people are really embracing Dr. Sketchy’s  in Lethbridge, and because a lot of people like weekend afternoons, they will be having more Dr. Sketchy’s then, including  Novembers, which will be at the Owl Acoustic Lounge. Because they had such a great turnout at the Owl during Arts Days, they were glad the Owl offered them the chance to return.
October’s Dr. Sketchy’s takes place, Friday, Oct. 29 from 5-8 p.m..
